Originally from Bala in North Wales, Andy joined the Royal Air Force in 1992. He served on Puma and Chinook helicopters, seeing operational service in the Former Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He subsequently flew as a flight commander on the TriStar air transport and air-to-air refuelling fleet. In 2008 he attended the Empire Test Pilots School, winning the Edwards Award for most impressive student. After three years as a heavy aircraft test pilot, he left the RAF in 2011 and joined AirTanker as an A330 Captain.
In 2020, Andy joined Rolls-Royce as the Chief Test Pilot, and has been the company’s Director of Flight Operations since January 2023.
As part of the Rolls-Royce organisational restructuring in 2024, Andy took on responsibility for all aspects of Rolls-Royce Corporate Heritage, including the management of the company’s historic Spitfire aircraft.
In his spare time, Andy enjoys light aircraft flying and is a keen, if inaccurate, Clay Pigeon shooter.
