Álvaro Pereira has accumulated 18,400 total flight hours over a career spanning more than 40 years. For 21 years, he worked at the Bolivian flag carrier Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano (LAB), initially serving as a specialist technician in engines and line operations for the first 5 years. He later became a pilot, flying the Fokker F27 (Line Chief), Boeing B707, B727 (100-200), and the B737 Classic (Flight and Simulator Instructor). While working as a mechanic at LAB, he also logged hours as a DC-3/C-47 pilot on a freight line. After LAB’s bankruptcy, Álvaro joined Copa Airlines, where he has been an active pilot for the last 19 years. At Copa, he has flown the Embraer E-190 (Flight and Simulator Instructor, Fleet Specialist, Technical Pilot) and the Boeing 737 NG/MAX as a line pilot. His duties have also included serving as an Auditor and Accident/Incident Investigator. Currently, Álvaro leads the Flight Safety Department under the Vice Presidency of Operational Safety and Quality Assurance at Copa Airlines. And ALTA Safety & Flight Ops Committee Co-Chair Safety.
