Capt. Nikhil Mathen leads Human Factors and Flight Operations Safety at IndiGo. In his role, he leads multiple safety and training integration programs that bridge operational data, human performance, and organizational learning. With extensive experience as an instructor, investigator, and safety related roles, he has been instrumental in embedding a data-driven, competency-based approach across IndiGo’s flight operations. He oversees initiatives such as the Flight Operations Safety Audit (FOSA) – IndiGo’s LOSA-program – and leads the other Safety and Human Factors portfolios, ensuring alignment with CBTA principles, TEM frameworks, and ICAO Annex 13 standards. His work focuses on converting operational insights from FDM,LOSA, and other Event into targeted training and proactive safety action. With this, IndiGo has strengthened its Learning from All Operations (LAO) approach. Capt. Mathen has represented IndiGo at multiple international safety forums including IATA, ICAO AP-RAST, and the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), where he has presented on topics ranging from Runway Safety and Predictive Safety Data to Human Factors Integration and CBTA Alignment. He is deeply committed to advancing the role of human performance in aviation safety — promoting a culture where data, dialogue, and trust drive continual improvement in operations and training.
