Dr Matt Ebbatson is the Aviation Learning and Innovation Manager at RMIT Aviation Academy. In that role he oversees the transformation of the academy’s flight and ground training syllabi to incorporate innovative digital learning practices, whilst fostering industry focused research initiatives.
Previously, Matt was Aviation Undergraduate Course Director in the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology at Swinburne University.

He holds a BSc Hons (Physics) from the University of Leeds, as well as an MSc (Human Factors & Safety Analysis in Aviation) and PhD from Cranfield University, a highly specialised aviation postgraduate institution.

Matt has over 18 years' experience engaging with the aviation industry to investigate and resolve human factors and safety related challenges in Britain, Australia and New Zealand. He commenced his career in operations as a flight data analyst and safety management advisor for Monarch Airlines, London.
In 2010 he joined academia while maintaining and expanding a strong set of industry relationships. This includes assisting Air New Zealand, Air Nelson and Airways New Zealand to safely deploy advanced automation capabilities within their respective operations.
Matt’s research interests include exploring the intersection of advanced educational technologies, operator performance measurement techniques, and aviation training systems to provide future methods of educating the aviation workforce. Matt is committed to the delivery of exemplary higher education in aviation that is both engaging and authentic.
