Ms Bongi Mtlokwa has been working at the South African Civil Aviation Authority for over 20 years in various portfolios including that of aviation safety technical specialist. Her primary role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining the State Safety Program (SSP) and assisting the aviation industry in adopting Safety Management Systems (SMS). This includes creating safety regulations, technical standards, and other guidance materials.
Before this, she spent five years in the Aircraft Accidents and Incidents Investigations department as a Technical Officer. Her responsibilities there included drafting procedures and tools for occurrence investigations and data analysis. She also contributed to the development of procedures and tools for SMS implementation in flight operations.
As an aviation safety technical expert, she was re-elected Chairperson of the ICAO Safety Management Panel (SMP) for the third term and a member of other key technical groups, such as the Global Aviation Safety Plan Study Group . .
She is a qualified ICAO senior trainer, a NASP implementation and monitoring expert, and an SSP expert currently on the ICAO roster of experts. Her contributions extend beyond South Africa, as She has worked with other States and ICAO regions in the area of safety implementation and national safety plans. Additionally. She has recently obtained her remote pilot license with a BVLOS rating.
She holds various diplomas and degrees, including Safety Management from the University of South Africa.
