Dr. Janis Vegers began his medical career as a physician specializing in internal medicine and aviation medicine after graduating from the Medical Academy of Latvia. In 2004, he expanded his expertise with advanced aviation and diving medical military training in Denmark.
By 2006, he became Chief Medical Officer of Latvia’s Civil Aviation Agency, helping implement aviation medical certification requirements of JAR-FCL 3 and later the EU Aircrew & ATCO Regulations.
Since 2012, he has been an FAA-authorized Aviation Medical Examiner.
In 2013, he joined EASA, as a Medical Standardisation Team Leader and, later, serving as Senior Medical Expert. Currently, he is Acting Section Manager of Aviation Health & Medicine and EASA’s Chief Medical Officer
