Speaker Bio
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Business from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. The next 23 years were spent flying professionally as a corporate and airline pilot, with 21 of those being for Midwest Airlines, primarily as a DC9 and B717 Captain. In addition to flying, I was a Pilot Instructor/Evaluator, DC9 Training Manager, B717 Fleet Manager, and Director of Flight Standards and Training. Commensurately, I represented the airline for about two years on A4A’s Flight Training Committee, then nine years on the Flight Safety Committee, of which the last two were as Chairperson. Following the buyout of Midwest, I transitioned to General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, holding management roles in airport operations and noise abatement for almost five years. During that time I received Airport Certified Employee – Operations and Certified Member credentials from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) along with National Incident Management System Incident Command System Certification. In 2014 I joined Southwest Airlines as a Safety and Security Business Partner to Network Operations Control, Flight Operations, and Inflight. At the beginning of 2017 I transitioned to what is now the Sr. ATC Systems Program Manager position. In this role I act as a liaison to airports and the air traffic control system, concentrating on airport and airspace operational safety and efficiencies. This affords frequent participation in Runway Safety Action Team Meetings, Runway Incursion Mitigation Studies, FAA Air Traffic / Airport Safety Risk Management Panels, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry relations, and even an opportunity to testify on runway safety issues at the NTSB. In addition, I currently represent Southwest Airlines on Runway Safety Council, Global Aviation Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions (GAPPRI), and Flight Safety Foundation’s International Advisory Committee. Lastly, I have been a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI) since 2006.
