Garrett Newman is an engineer in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Office of Accident Investigation and Prevention. Since joining the FAA in 2019, he has played a key role in progressing safety reporting, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion initiatives. He facilitates and consults on safety risk management efforts, while advancing policy, guidance, and training. As a Technical Advisor to the US nominated member to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Safety Management Panel and Rapporteur for the Safety Performance Management Work Group, Mr. Newman is contributing to development of the forthcoming Amendment 2 to Annex 19 and the Fifth Edition of the Safety Management Manual. Before joining the FAA, Mr. Newman spent over a decade overseeing new and operating power reactors around the country, as well as domestic and international suppliers. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
