Katherine (Katie) B. Murphy is the program manager for the safety culture program in FAA’s Aviation Safety Line of Business, which is responsible for certification, production approval, and continued airworthiness of aircraft; and certification of pilots, mechanics, and others in safety-related positions.

In her role, Katie leads and coordinates efforts to promote positive safety culture for the Aviation Safety organization within FAA., including the implementation of the AVS Safety Culture survey and resulting action planning, continuous improvement, and additional non-survey assessment methods implemented for safety culture maturation. Katie integrates and coordinates efforts with safety leaders and technical experts across services and offices.

Prior to her current role, Katie served as a federal government consultant leading organizational transformation and behavior change initiatives, with roles in project management, strategic planning, assessment and business planning, performance management, process improvement, change management and strategic communications efforts across federal health care organizations.

Among these efforts, Katie spent several years leading teams in support of the DOD Military Health System high reliability and safety culture initiative serving 140,000 MHS personnel and 9.6 million beneficiaries of DOD healthcare.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Miami University and a Master of Public Health, concentration in Global and Community Health, from George Mason University. She holds certifications in project management, change management, Lean Six Sigma process improvement, and quality and safety.
