Mark Larsen, CAM, serves as the Director of Safety & Flight Operations at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). In this role, he leads safety and flight operations education, policy initiatives, and rulemaking efforts involving the FAA, Department of Transportation, and NTSB. He is the staff liaison to the NBAA Safety Committee and a key advocate for aviation medical and mental health support initiatives within the business aviation community. Mark works closely with the NBAA Safety Committee to identify emerging safety issues and develop resources that help members mitigate operational risks. Notably, he was a member of the team that developed the Business Aviation Safety Manager Certificate program, designed to educate individuals overseeing Safety Management Systems (SMS) in business aviation organizations. His extensive involvement in industry-wide safety groups includes: - FAA Mental Health and Aviation Medical Clearances ARC - FAA Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) General Aviation Issues Analysis Team - FAA General Aviation Joint Safety Committee (GAJSC) Safety Analysis Team - FAA Air Carrier Training ARC (ACT ARC) Steering Group - Air Charter Safety Foundation (Board of Governors) - Bombardier Safety Standdown (Advisory Council) Since joining NBAA in 2004, Mark has held diverse responsibilities, including managing domestic operations challenges such as RVSM authorization processes and Part 135/125 training and checking standards. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Aviation Management from the University of North Dakota. A commercial pilot and flight instructor (CFI), he provided instruction at Dulles Aviation from 2005–2009. He earned his Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) credential in 2015 and a Mental Health First Aid certificate in 2023.
