Jodi Baker is the Deputy Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety Management which leads the agency-wide SMS through coordination with each line of business and centralization of safety management activities including the development of safety risk policy, facilitation of safety risk management panels, safety assurance, and delivery of safety culture training. Previously, Ms. Baker was Deputy Administrator for Aviation Safety. In this capacity, she co-led the organization responsible for setting, overseeing and enforcing safety standards for all aspects of the aviation industry—airlines, manufacturers, repair stations, pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, and any person or product that operates in aviation. Prior to her role as Deputy Administrator for Aviation Safety, Ms. Baker was Deputy Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives in the Aircraft Certification Service. She served as Acting Deputy Associate Administrator from May 2020 to March 2021 and May to October 2021. Before joining Aircraft Certification, Baker was one of the Deputy Directors for the Office of Air Carrier Safety Assurance, Flight Standards Service in the Aviation Safety Organization. She worked in the Flight Standards Service since December 2000. Over the course of her career at FAA, Ms. Baker held management positions in the Air Transportation Division, including the Division Manager, Assistant Manager, Deputy Assistant Manager, Manager of the Policy Integration Branch, Special Assistant, Manager of the Part 135 Air Carrier Operations Branch; and Manager of the Part 121 Air Carrier Operations Branch. She has also served as the Acting Deputy Director for the Office of Safety Standards, Flight Standards Service in the Aviation Safety Organization. Ms. Baker started with the Air Transportation Division in 2006 as an Aviation Safety Inspector assigned to the Part 121 Air Carrier Operations Branch. While assigned to that office, she worked primarily on issues of cabin safety and pilot fatigue, including ultra-long range operations. Prior to her assignment to AFS-200, she managed air carrier certificates in the Indianapolis Flight Standards District Office and the Portland (OR) Flight Standards District Office. Before joining the FAA, Ms. Baker worked for Northwest Airlines. She also previously worked for the FAA in various assignments in the Office of Policy, Planning and International Aviation.
