Sherry graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin. She began working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an air traffic controller at Santa Monica Tower. Prior to assuming her current position of Manager of the Los Angeles Control Tower, she managed many other towers and an approach control. In addition, she was a District Manager for 22 years and was also the acting Assistant Division Manager of the Western-Pacific Region, overseeing all air traffic operations in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii.
She was a panelist at the Women in Aviation International (WAI) conference in Orlando and a featured speaker at their conference in San Diego. She was an honoree at the Women at Work Organization and one of two honorees at a March of Dimes luncheon. In addition, she was a panelist at a Harvard Business School Alumni seminar on leadership and hosted a Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) group at LAX Tower.
Sherry has appeared on CNN, the Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic Channel, Learning Channel, TBS, Fit TV, and several local channels. She has been interviewed on National Public Radio twice and been on the cover of two aviation magazines. She was also featured in an Army recruitment video encouraging a career in aviation, where she spent time in a Blackhawk helicopter. In addition, she is a regular speaker at the University of Southern California (USC) Aviation Safety Institute.
She is a private pilot and has a real estate broker’s license. She has two sons, Steve and Joel, who both graduated from USC’s Marshall School of Business and have run successful companies. She adores her five grandchildren, Eric, Laurel, Ella, Cody, and Pierce. She is an avid fan of the Lakers, Dodgers, Rams, and USC Trojan football.
