Speaker Bio
Peter Whitten a Director at OdiliaClark, a leading provider of impairment risk management services to safety-critical industries. Alongside his non flying role, he is an active long-haul pilot on the Boeing 787 for a major UK airline. He began his aviation career in the Royal Air Force, flying the C-17 Globemaster on global operations before instructing on the King Air B200. Peter’s work in peer support was shaped by personal experience following a sudden bereavement in 2017, during which he relied on peer support as part of his recovery.
In 2018, he co-founded OdiliaClark to address a growing need for structured, confidential support and robust impairment risk management within aviation and other safety-critical sectors. He was part of the team that developed Talk To A Peer (TTAP), a collaborative, multi-operator peer support programme designed to provide timely, trusted support from trained peers outside an individual’s own organisation. Now delivered internationally, TTAP is provided in partnership with MedAire in the United States as part of MedAire Wellbeing Services, extending its reach to a global network of operators.
Peter works closely with airlines, regulators, and unions to design peer support frameworks, training, and substance misuse policies that align with regulatory requirements, including EASA and the CAAs CAT.GEN.MPA.215 and equivalent international standards. He previously chaired the UK CAA Flight Operations Liaison Group (FOLG) Subcommittee on Crew Health and Wellbeing, contributing to industry guidance on peer support and drug and alcohol testing. He also served as CEO of the International Peer Assist Aviation Coalition (IPAAC), helping to bring together global stakeholders to share best practice and advance peer support across the industry. Peter’s current work focuses on recovery and monitored return-to-work frameworks, global peer support network design, and supporting operators to strengthen both wellbeing and safety assurance. Through his work, he continues to advocate for practical, scalable solutions that protect licences, livelihoods, and lives.
